Audio fingerprinting

After hearing about MySpace using Audio fingerprinting to prevent sharing of copyrighted music, I was curious to read about "Audio Fingerprinting". It seems to be a pretty cool concept.
Simply put, audio fingerprinting is the process by which we are able to identify some piece of music, given just a few seconds of input to go on.
It is easy to guess that Audio fingerprinting (AFP)would compute Hash for identifying the music piece but it is interesting to note that AFP needs perceptual similarity and not mathematical similarity. For eg, a song played from an MP3 player or an AM station should both have the same fingerprint. A brilliant review of Audio fingerprinting can be found here.
