This past weekend, I was installing Oracle 10g Express Edition (itz a free edition with some limted capabilities on storage capacity and User accounts) on Fedora Core 5. The installation was simple but reported some errors regarding permissions. Getting to configure Oracle really drained me. I couldnt get to mount / open the database. After reading some suggestions from Oracle forums (Oracle maintains some great forums at Oracle Technology Network), I decided to re-install Oracle and boom it worked. It was a gud experience. If anyone is struck with Oracle (esp. 10g Express edition) on Fedora core 5, a re-install is worth a try.
You can download Oracle 10g Express edition and install instructions here.
